    Not the name but I did suggest the utility of the MRV for such missions before and it was sunk

      Given this is just another stunt from Boris and Co, I’d still doubt the idea.

        Not doubting that but we are an island nation, a small open economy, one of our biggest customers has put up trade barriers and a strong economy is in the DF’s interests

          In general ANY Naval Ship capable of trans climatic travel can show the Flag and support missions ( LE Eithne New York, LE Niamh Far East). If the MRV can meet the support/HADR roles envisaged then most things will be possible including delivery and collection of necessary cargos/vehicles. The Brits may have seen that a State ship is needed to pursue trade and to boost the New Monarchy on the world stage in the next decade. There is no reason why someone like Whitaker, or Lemass could not be honoured OR recycle former Celtic fleet names.

          • In answer to a clarification question to advisor tender “the Defence Organisation Project Team has completed approximately 90% of the specifications of the MRV”

              In this months WARSHIPS magazine there is a stated intention by British MOD to build a Multi Role Ocean Surveillance vessel, maybe it's Boris's Trade Ship, or it may be a new MRV to keep up with us.

                I believe it is going to be what was once known as a "spy ship" or "reconnaissance vessel", the overt kind and not the type that masquerades as a Trawler or Hydrograpic Vessel.
                It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
                It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
                It was a new age...It was the end of history.
                It was the year everything changed.

                  The Royal Navy are developing a new Multi Role Ocean Surveillance ship (MROSS) to protect our nation against hostile actors and grow our understanding of maritime threats.

                  • Interesting. You would need dimensional aspects and range capability to work out potential operational roles. 15 crew and Artic AOP's don't seem realistic, unless the vessel is deployed from a mother ship and maybe is a type of submersible.

                      I would say they are looking at something like the Damen Multi-Role Auxiliary Vessel 3600, which has a Normal Crew of 14 but accommodation for 59 (Crew + Mission Specialists).

                      Capable of hydrographic operations both in littoral and deeper waters, Damen Multi Role Auxiliary Vessel 3600 also has a helideck and substantial storage capacity.

                        There is little capability deliverable with small crews requiring augmentation for variable circumstances. It is difficult to comprehend what would trigger extra crew. It would be too late on site, hundreds of miles from base, if the need instantly arose. Traditionally Naval vessels were crewed for 24 hour operation with all positions manned when required as at action stations. Unless there is a mother ship in the offing?

                          The extra Accomodiation could be to allow for increased manning, dive teams, scientists, trainees etc.

                            I don't think it would set sail "operationally" without its "Mission Specialists", and considering its proposed mission profiles, I don't think the RN/MoD would want the outside world to know to much about the Mission Specialist or their Equipment other then the general "advanced sensors" and "remotely operated and autonomous undersea drones" spiel that is on the press release , so its just easier for them to declare its Minimum Crewing Levels for it to sail and call everyone else Mission Specialist, just to keep the likes of you, me and Vlad guessing.

                              • No expert by any means but my guess is something along the lines of SD Northern River or SD Victoria;

                                Can deploy manned and unmanned submersibles...the new RN crewed vessel will require ISTAR capabilities.
