  • NAVY Resumes search for missing fisherman

No doubt the inhabitants of the area will blame the NS for failing to find this guy alive....case of Deja vĂș all over again...

IN fairness to the families, once divers are called in it is a case of recovery rather than rescue.
Regarding various sinkings a perusal of the MCIB reports throws up the same themes all around the coast.

It does but the underlying local theme always seems to be , especially in the fishing communities that not enough was done to bring about the conclusion they seek.

What is enough or when is it no longer feasible.?

Families who lose loved ones to the sea often have to live with the fact that there will be a final resting place but those around them often tend to blame those tasked with recovery for not doing 'enough'.

'Time and tide waits for no man' as the saying goes and the nothing anyone can do can change this so why the often negative comments that not enough was done,?

The 'Meedja' often being the largest exponent of the line, was enough done?

So when is enough in their eyes.?

It is unfortunate, but not surprising, that the reality of the effects of long term exposure of human remains to the realities of the sea is not made more public.
If only so the families would know what to expect, and, what the recovery team are searching for, once a relatively short period of time has elapsed.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

If I recall correctly there was disquiet in some quarters over the op concerning the Rising Sun and also the Honeydew 11.
Picking up Goldies theme re public/media not understanding matters, people also are unaware that diving can only be done in certain windows and divers cannot continually dive under 10m day in day out regardless of conditions, presribed breaks are needed yet the public think the divers are doing nothing and also dont care.

What was the final story with the civi diver that disregarded the

safety warnings, And ended up getting the curly finger from Dr Darwin

The diver concerned was BO'C from near New Ross.Nothing faulty was found with his gear but he was using a rebreather which are considered widow makers in some quarters.Nothing arose in the pm but he was in the water for about 10 days and this may have masked the actual cause. He was a very exp diver and had dived/searched in numerous tragedies previously.
When he dived the wreck in question he was not breaching any rules/regs and the authorities were aware of the dive, indeed CR was the cg incident manager at the time.

Did this guy dive alone ?

Down to a wreck with nets laying about.

If so maybe he should have left it to the experts.?

Perhaps the speculation should be too?

I hope you are employed by the MCUI then.

The diver concerned was on the CFT system and had a buddy,on that system solo diving is verboten. He would have been considered an expert but experts are not immune from badluck/accidents.The dive was done with the knowledge of the CG manager who himself was an ex NS diver.
The wreck was a lobster boat and did not have nets shot when it keeled over due to unstable loading factors.

Wasn't it done after the NSDS suspended diving for safety reasons due to the weather conditions?

As I recall the NS unit arrived in KQ on the following Sunday ,BOC went missing on the prev Thurs, and commenced full ops later that week when the rov was fully op.
