I seen photos of the recent NS passing out parade where the new NS recruits are dressed in jumpers and work trousers albeit with white belts instead of their No 1 uniform. Contrast this with an army passing out parade at Collins Bks Cork around the same time, in which the army recruits passed out in their full uniform not working rig. I've attended many NS passing out parade in Haulbowline as a civilian guest and have never seen NS recruits passing out in their work rig before. Anyone know the answer?
Uniform Shortages.
It is a DF wide issue, due to the limited recruitment, but is particularly evident in the Naval Service, due to the smaller overall staffing level.
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

That is the reason
but it is still a disgrace it was allowed happen- FFS it wasnt a huge amount of bodies
passing out-
When the Chief got his nod of appointment I didnt see him having to wait until uniform
issues were sorted before he could change his uniform- nor the Air Corp bloke in his
make believe uniform- he didnt have to wait- why then didnt these young sailors
have a proper uniform for their passing out.
The little French General said- always look after the horse then the men then yourself.
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Remember the "chief" does not get issued his superfines, he gets a tailor to make them..
I wouldnt blame the officers in this case. It is a problem with the OPW.

At least they didn't make them pass out in army gear.
No it is unique as the photos of various passing out parades will show, but it didn't take from the high standard on the day,The drill was excellent and the deportment was of the highest class, the **** ups of the opw certainly weren't reflect by the group.
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe
it was a makey uppy affair on the day, Royal navy jumpers and marines trousers were used (as told to me by a participant). they were told that the DF couldn't afford to buy uniforms in.
"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."
I think someone was taking the piss as marines were DPM!
The wooly poolies are standard NCO type..probably even ratings issue at this point given the need for epualettes for ratings these days.
In days of yore when you went to a ship as a junior rating those who smelt of salt and diesel and paint as opposed to those newly arrived who smelt of vomit,promptly tore the epauettes from your shirt while it was still on you stating...'You'll never wear anything on them, why have them.'...RIppppppp! Pockets sometimes followed.
Different Navy then.
