Bah, thats nothing, have you not seen the newest class of star-destroyers we are building, apparently there is only one prototype ready now, but more are on the way (25 is the conservative estimate). They are equipped with flight decks for the Air Corps new fighter craft (delivered last week).
There will be a compliment of 1200 crewmen and officers on board (not including the contingent of 300 of the newly formed "Irish Marine Commandos").
For your convenience I have attached a photo of the new "L.E. Ballsbreaker" and her Air Corps escort cruising above Cobh.

Just want to correct you there Conco..the submarine is conventionally powered and replaces the Naomh Brendan which was retired after attempts to convert her powerplant failed dramatically, causing the radioactive fire, and later total shutdown,of the adjacent Irish Steel Facility.
Work on the Assault ship "Smaoineamh" is progressing well however..
It is expected that the irish flag will again fly on Rockall as soon as this vessel is completed.
Meanwhile,a deal has been secured to retain One of the Invincible class carriers for irish purposes. To be called," gcreime an Cat Mara do bhall fearga" It will be anchored in Dublin bay and used as the New Air Corps HQ when Baldonell is sold off to Ryanair.

Disclaimer:Any resemblance to actual events or individuals is purely concidence and totally intentional. No correspondance will be entered into. The above information must not be communicated to anyone. (c)

Legionnaire, where is Ireland in your assessment?, while you were away, we took delivery of 2 helicopter carriers and a nuclear submarine. Apparently there was a secret naval base on Tory Island no one knew about! We must be up there somewere!

You forgot the Seawolf. France Italy and U.k. all are pretty much the same (Aster 15/30) so I just listed them in order of favrite. France has a new ultra quiet SSBN, over a thousand times quieter than orevious version, and a new SSN under development. RUssia is working on more Akulas, and new Sevorisks and Boreys. India just ordered 6 Scorpcanes, with option for six more. Singapore, France and Italy all have more ships in a simler class for AA.

I would contend that in the case of Area air defence your list is a little misguided..
    You say
    area air defence
    Americia
    Japan
    Netherlands
    Spain
    France
    Italy
    U.K.
    Tiawan
    Germany
However in recent combat against a well trained dedicated attack from the air,the RN done much better, without the advantage of AEWACS. In the falklands, the Task force were under constant attack from the air with modern weapons Its losses, though serious, did not affect the outcome of the conflict. The only exception was the Atlantic Conveyer which went down with most of the task forces Heavy Helicopters. And the sir Galahad, which would have been a minor attach, had troops not been put aboard the same vessel as fuel.
The USN has not had ita tactics and equipment tested in real combat against a determined navy. Nor Have the Japs, dutch, spicks, frogs, wops or slinky chinkys.
Germany has not had a shot fired at its Navy from the air since the Tirpitz!
All other major warships did what they were designed to do, protect the Carriers and major troopships, even if that meant self sarcrifice.

    Undersea Warfare.

I would have to contend that Quality, followed by Quantity, that the following would be the top ten.

RN- Astute will only emphasise the highest quality crews in the world.
USN- 688i's are currently the quietest, so why go quieter?
RAN/CF:MC-on a rough par with Collins and Upholder/Victoria classes.
Sweden- smaller but still effective AIP boats.
Japan- Highly effective and expansive SSK's.
Russian Navy- SSN's are mid 80's tech, no new generation funding.
France- Noisy SSN and SSBN's are a major downfall.
India/China- hampered by pursuit of SSN's not High tech SSK's, India the same except late model kilo's balance the books a little...

There you are, that's my USW ready reckoning for you to pull apart.

As for carrier power, the RN is second behind the USN obviously, the CVS's generate higher sorties than both the USN and FN CVN's, thereby delivering a higher percentage of ordanance than normal. They would be followed by the Brazillian Navy, currently at 2 fleet carriers. The Russians would come in next as the Su-33's can generate the same sort of sortie rate as the RN's CVS's and have the load out weights of F-14's. Next comes Italy with it's CV's and then Spain followed by India and last but not least the Thai navy with the Chakri Nareubet.

Also, the RN is too low down in the list for AAW, Amphibious and ASuW.
