Those vessels should be handed over to the NSR, waste of money in the hands of the Customs

Excellent suggestion. At least the vessels would go to sea then

Given that the op was intel led ie not a random stop & search on foot of info from Portugal I have often wondered whether the NS should sail on the siezed boat, booty & bods for processing there. It would save all the legal aid to the cats here, 000's monthly in custody costs and free up court time for indigenous delinquents.

Anyone any experience of DF FOI requests, presume it is done by public servants over here much like the PQ's.

As far as I know if a PQ regarding a DF matter is received, it is forwarded to the DF to gain the info (if necessary)

That could be a normal modus operandi with many variations. Boat could be " bought " with drugs already stuffed on board to be delivered with the boat. Drugs can be transshipped at sea but could be more detectable from ais observation. The most frequent detector is prime inside information allowing a nab at an opportune planned moment. Well done them in any case.

Another wexican fisherman who believes the Laws don't apply to them.

Article said he was from Waterford, not Wexford...
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"

A yacht capsized last week, two people onboard, neither had a passport, no mayday sent, washed up on Achill Island and was there unnoticed for three days.
The Air Corps winched Customs staff to examine the yacht, but nothing was found.
Another one slipped through the big cracks.
