  • RN drama on ITV Ulster Wednesday 7 July 21:00

An interesting Naval drama will shortly hit our screens.
The ITV1 show "Making Waves" featuring HMS Grafton(as the fictional HMS Suffolk) should be from all reports a naval version of "Soldier Soldier" that was popular for many years on ITV.
The Cast include Actor Alex Forbes(Former Eastenders Baddie Trevor Morgan) as the ships new Captain, and Lee Boardman(corrie baddie Jez Quigley) as a member of the crew.

Keep an eye out..ITV are advertising it as "coming soon"

Baddies abound. Sounds like a right crew of scurvy scumbags.

                    Making Waves

The ship used to make this series is HMS Grafton, she was in Dublin in the summer of 1999. They were very reluctant to let the public see too much below decks.
The ferry in the backround in Portsmouth was formally Irish Ferries M V Isle of Innismore, I do not know what its present name is.

I think the navy lads are as embarassed about this as the army was about soldier soldier, but recruiting is up according to the dockyard dandy so the brass is happy with it.

Fury of ITV chop for Navy
                          By TOM NEWTON DUNN
                          Defence Editor
ROYAL Navy top brass are fuming after ITV chiefs pulled the plug on a
major seafaring drama after just THREE episodes.
Making Waves, starring ex-EastEnders hunk Alex Ferns, has been axed from
Wednesday night's prime-time slot after viewing figures slumped from
                          5.5million to just 3.7million.
First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Alan West is said to be "hopping mad" after
the Navy spent months helping ITV and gave them full use of warship HMS
Grafton and her 170 crew for filming.
A Navy source said: "This is a kick in the teeth to our sailors. It's
spineless. We bent over backwards to help."
An ITV spokeswoman told The Sun: "This decision should not be taken as a
                          snub to the Navy."
It is a double blow for HMS Grafton's crew, who last week learned their
ship is to be scrapped in defence cuts
I guess when its not Big brother or some other reality TV shite.. :(

Withdrawal Of ‘Making Waves’ From ITV Schedule

After the screening of three of the planned six weekly episodes of the RN based drama “Making Waves”, regrettably it failed to meet the audience viewing figures expected by the ITV network scheduling authority. Consequently, ITV has decided to withdraw the series forthwith. The fourth, planned to be shown on Wednesday 28 July, and subsequent episodes will not be broadcast as previously advertised. ITV currently has no plans to screen the remaining three episodes in the near future.

In a statement ITV said, “It is always difficult to predict audience reaction and sadly Making Waves failed to deliver the magic ingredient that captures the viewing public’s imagination. The opening episodes did not attract a large enough audience in what has become a very competitive time slot. These decisions are not taken lightly but reflect the needs off a commercial channel to protect the overall performance of its peak time schedule.”

Its a shame. It had potential, but who really sits in watching tv on a midweek evening in summer? It could have done better if it was shown in autumn, like most prime shows.
The odd thing is it still appears in the schedule given out by sundays papers. In fact the plotline for the never shown fourth episode has been revealed with the summary of the 5th and penultimate episode.
With all the crap on tv lately.....
                              Fail to prepare....prepare to FAIL!
