I notice the Pacific Teal is on its way to cherbourg with a load of Waste for recycling(from Warheads it seems)
Did the NS play a part in the Last convoy of this type, and was it there to prevent the protesters getting in the way,or to prevent the ship from entering irish waters?(I Understand they have their own self defence capability)
Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
The Green Party is demanding that Irish naval vessels be sent off the south coast to ensure that two ships carrying weapons-grade plutonium to France do not enter Ireland's territorial waters.
Party leader Trevor Sargent said assurances given to the Irish Government from the US and France were simply not enough and that the transport of such a deadly cargo was completely unjustifiable.
The vessels are carrying more than 300 pounds of plutonium from US nuclear warheads.
The weapons-grade plutonium on board will be recycled into nuclear fuel in France and then transported back to the United States.
The environmental group Greenpeace says it is awaiting the ships with a flotilla.
The group may set up road blockades to prevent the plutonium being transported to processing plants in southeast France.
It is believed the shipment could pass within 40 miles of the Kerry coast.

The same naval service they want to turn into a coastguard
You're even dumber than I tell people
You might have been infected but you never were a bore
I'm not sure where the Green Party stand on all this, except that it's very stupid regardless.
The ship is taking weapons grade plutonium to be turned into MOX fuel - which is a lot safer for the world all told. Maybe the Green Party would suggest a way of dealing with existing stocks of nuclear material satisfactory to them that does not involve having it disappear magically?
The Greens suggest that this shipment passing within 40 miles of the Irish coast poses a major risk to us, though they haven't got around to explaining how exactly. The shipping requirements for this material are stringent to say the least.
Finally what do they propose the Naval Service does about the shipments?
So I wonder if the gp would support the expansion of the NS to protect us from all possible sources of nasty mean radiation? The bonus being we could prevent those terrible american warships from visiting us too...
Does an OTO Melara fire daffodils?
