A crane has toppled on to aircraft carrier HMS Invincible in Portsmouth injuring three people and leaving one trapped inside the crane.

The crane, which was lifting a "cherry picker" vehicle on to the aircraft carrier at Portsmouth Naval Base fell on to the warship just after 10am.

A Navy spokesman said the three injured suffered minor cuts and shock and were treated on board.
HMS Invincible - rededicated and returned to Portsmouth last year after a £64 million refit - was in dock for routine maintenance work.

The cherry picker vehicle had been used as part of refurbishment work being carried out to the ship.
The ship's deck, which is being repainted, currently has scaffolding on it and is covered in tarpaulin.
A Navy spokesman said: "One of the large cranes was lifting a cherry-picker off the deck of HMS Invincible when the crane toppled on to the deck.

"There is relatively minor damage to the ship and no hull damage."
The crane driver was trapped in his cab for almost one and a half hours before being released by fire crews.
The spokesman said he had suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital.
"It is difficult to say how badly he is injured but he was standing after he was released from the crane," he added

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.
