A long time ago, Britain and France were at war. During one battle, the French captured an English colonel. They took him to their headquarters and the French general began to question him.
Finallly, as an afterthought, the French general asked, "Why do you English officers all wear red coats? Don't you know the red material makes you easier targets for us to shoot at?"
In his bland English way, the officer informed the general that the reason English officers were red coats is if they are shot the blood won't show, and the men they are leading won't panic.
And that is why, from that day to this, all French Army officers wear brown pants.

    hi there
The Bersaglieri are an old Italian unit, who wear plumage/cockades on their headgear and are known for using a double-time march.I think they originated in the era of Garibaldi as elite infantry.

    Hi all
My wife did a stint of aid work in Kosovo and met the Italian Bersaglierei. They were next to useless, as they hated Albanians anyway, and seemed to be more concerned about how they looked in mirror shades, etc. The British paras were excellent, always willing to help the aid workers with their unloading. The Italian Air Force flew the aid workers to Kosovo, on Pumas. She said that the aircrew regarded themselves as beyond cool and were relentless posers(lots of hanging out of aircraft doorways, bristling with guns, etc.

Sure that's traditional for alot of Italian soldiers anyway. Part of their culture I guess.

the Canadians are good as well

but they seem ( to me) to be a very rank orientated Army

and the French speaking crowd hate the English Speaking units etc

the Canucks have a really really great support structure

    and their women are cute

the Dutch are a good bunch as well- competent and well trained

and full of porn and beer

Good soldiers, when led by British officers.
