Civil Defence are members of the Defence Forces and the Gardai can go with the UN Vets or the ONET and members of the DF families always go

Who would comprise the Civilian party ?

                      Spouses of serving/ex-servicemen (women)?

Just got back from Lourdes today and I can honestly say it was 1 of the best experiences of my life.

The highlight of the 5 days for me had to be the Mass for Deceased Members, anybody present at the Mass can vouch for just how good it was. Dermot Earley also gained my utmost respect for him as a person at the Mas when it came to his speech.

I was lucky enough to be in the only other platoon apart from the Cadet Class to march to the church that evening, marching behind the Pipe Band. I don't think I've ever felt as much pride as a member of the DF as I did then, I'd even rate it higher than how I felt as I passed out. The standard of drill from the Cadets and the platoon was top notch, with one civilian saying it was the best drill he'd seen all week.

Overall it really was an unbelievable thing to be a part of and it was a great turn out by the Irish on the most part, only letdown by the carry on of the troops from the South, West, DFTC and Navy(Minus their Cadets, who were top notch)
