      Slightly off thread, but the latest (31 August 2005) rankings for quantity of military and police personnel contributions to UN operations {doesn't include KFOR, EUFOR, ISAF, OSCE}:

      1-15=> Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Ethiopa, Ghana, Nigeria, Jordan, Uruguay, South Africa, Morocco, Senegal, Kenya, Brazil and Argentina.

      Some others of note:
      China (17th)
      Poland (19th - the highest EU contributor)
      France (21st)
      IRELAND (23rd)
      UK (28th)
      USA (29th)

          A lot of third world countries see UN missions as a ncie little earner, plus as a useful way to keep armies occupied and not to be plotting coups and the like.

          .
          With 50,000 men getting killed a week, who's going to miss a pigeon?

              Nep Batt were famous in the Leb for the jiltiness of salutes, and supplying batmen to certain ex 2 FAR RSM's

              The figure above are NOT a true reflection, if we take into consideration KFOR, and EUFOR, ISAF and the rest of the cushy Officer missions, it adds up to nearly 800,

              This is very close to 10% of our current strength

              China with an Army of millions send just under 900 people abroad etc etc

              YJ is right on his assertion of 3 rd world countries sending bodies overseas,
              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
              Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
              The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
              The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
              The best lack all conviction, while the worst
              Are full of passionate intensity.

                            KFOR

                            A consequence of NATO’s 1999 campaign in Kosovo was the deployment of KFOR (Kosovo Force) in the region to which the Defence Forces have to date contributed a Transport Company and National Support Element from 1999 to 2003. In September 2003 the Transport Company was replaced by the 27th Infantry Group. Currently the 31st Infantry Group under the command of Lt Col Robert Nugent is deployed in KFOR and is based in Camp Clarke with a total Group strength of 208 all ranks.
