What? The rest of the countries will give us their equipment to train with?

According to Willie O Dea at his EU battlegroups conference on friday last Ireland will train in the Nordic countries because of current legislation banning armed operational troops on irish soil

According to Willie O Dea and the Defense Act of 1950, Ireland needs UN permission to send more than 12 armed troops abroad on operations

if/when the army do go to scandanavia for training whats the likely hood they will bring their own equipment. e.g mowags, nissans, those things that shot bullets?

Well maybe not the rifes but it seems to me that it would make more sence to train with the likes of the mowags because when they do get deployed that's what they'll be using.

Mr O'Dea said that the triple lock will remain in place and that this issue will be resolved by clearer wording of the Battle groups system. In brief, the Battle group will have a preemptive Mandate to go into areas before a UN blue cap operation can be organised. The battlegroup will effectively be on stand by for a term designated by the final draft proposal. So Ireland, Nordic battle group would be on 1 weeks notice stand-by for a period of 2 years and after that, another countries battle group will go on stand-by and the irish-nordic will be stood down. This shares the costs of maintaining the rapid reaction force needed for the battle group.

Who's in the nordic battle group? Is it just Ireland, Sweden and The Fin's? Are Norway and Denmark not getting in on it?
To close with and kill the enemy in all weather conditions, night and day and over any terrain

At the conference last Friday, the Finns said they were in 2 Battle groups, one with Germany & Denmark and one with Sweden & Norway. Ireland was left out of the initial Battlegroups (Rumours are that the EU was less than impressed with Irelands ability to deploy quickly) and is only trying to get in now. Sweden has been mentioned as a possible partner (Due to Liberia Experience together) but no committment has been made yet.

If Ireland cannot deploy quickly, then there is no point in being in the battlegroups now is there. And seeing as we would have to provide our own mechinised element, how many Mowags are currently overseas?
Would we need to double our Mowag numbers to take part in a battlegroup so we could deploy quickly??
What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem.

Is there a deadline for when we have to be operational?

                        13. United Kingdom and the Netherlands

Ireland is in negotiations but not actually part of any battlegroup.

Much comment has been made of the fact that a Battlegroup has to be able to deploy in under 2 weeks. Ireland would have to wait longer than that(Usually) to get a UN mandate and the Constitution also prevents foreign troops training here in any substantial numbers.

In last Fridays Conference, Minister Willie O' Dea also talked about some of the proposed changes that are going to be made to DA54 in the coming weeks.... one of which will allow the DF to compel troops to serve abroad.

                        The official info on Battlegroups:
