  • New more lethal 5.56mm round for British Soldiers.

ok this is a report from the Daily Mirror but i've seen this mentioned officially before at work:

"A new high-tech bullet has been developed to help British troops take on the Taliban.
The ammunition will replace regular 5.56mm rounds which have been found to be ineffective on the Afghan frontline.

The traditional bullets are designed to wound an enemy fighter so comrades are distracted and go to their aid.

But troops have found they go straight through teenage Taliban gunmen, who are often skinny and malnourished, leaving them relatively unharmed. In turn the Taliban shoot back with 7.62mm rounds from Russian Dragunov rifles which are far more deadly over a longer distance.

So a super-lethal 5.56mm round has been developed in secret by British Aerospace and military boffins Qinetiq."
