  • Status Quo remake "In the Army Now" for Charity

Remade for Help for Heroes and The British Forces Foundation.

That's your lot in the video, isn't it RGJ?

I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

    NOOOOO!

    NOT AGAIN!

Do you people not realise what it is like to have this sung at you every time you walk down the street in uniform?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

lol, nah - at the time when we were Green Jackets (2RIFLES and 4RIFLES) it was Sergeant.

the whole of the Rifles only adopted 'Serjeant' in 2007. before then it was a Light Infantry (3RIFLES and 5RIFLES) thing.

but it's a great song, iconic, and to be honest it really did influence me joining the Army when i was a young lad.

            i'd buy it if i bought music - but i don't - but i'll buy it anyhow.

            thanks again Buck.

They're Spurs fans so whatever you think about the music, they must be decent blokes...

Try joining the Army about 3 weeks before it was released.
First weekend off and surrounded by so called mates shouting it at you the first time I hit the dancefloor

                  I miss my tank...

Not sure about the re-wording. I understand why, doesn't mean I really like it.

                    Good version

though I preferred the Dire Straits "brothers in arms" charity song

but to be fair to Quo- its a good version and catchy

I hope it makes a lot of money for the poor young lads maimed and injured.

RGJ- some cute birds in the video- are they female riflesrs

and is that a unit madra or does he belng to the band
                    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                    Are full of passionate intensity.
