The British Ministry of Defence has confirmed that a nuclear submarine has been involved in an incident off the Isle of Skye.
There are no reports of any injuries.
A statement issued by the MOD said the incident aboard the HMS Astute "is not a nuclear incident".
"We are responding to the incident and can confirm that there are no injuries to personnel," the statement said.
"There is no indication of any environmental impact."
It is understood that the submarine’s crew are waiting for high tide so they can free the vessel.
