  • UK signs a Maritime Patrol Aircraft declaration with the US

In 2019 the UK will receive delivery of its first Poseidon P-8A aircraft and both nations have committed to deepen their defence cooperation when operating in the North Atlantic region. Through seeking opportunities to share logistics and support bases and optimise the use of P-8A aircraft, particularly in Europe, the declaration should ensure increased value for money and operational effectiveness.

Minister for Defence Procurement Harriett Baldwin today signed a P-8A Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) declaration with her United States counterpart, Deputy Secretary of Defense Bob Work to further strengthen the uniquely close defence relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.

Good news for UK forces but at what cost?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-38771866

"However, a National Audit Office report warned it must first find £5.8bn in new savings to meet the extra commitments."

The UK can't afford it anymore .... essentially May said today no more foreign interventions .... quite sensible cutting the coat according to ....

What does australia have to do with it? Could the MOD not even come up with an artist impression that included the UK based RN and an aircraft with RAF markings instead of RAAF and RAN?

No point in having an aircraft if there is nobody to operate it.

              ?

it's just a lovely picture of the same type of lovely aircraft - i don't think the markings are relevant.

it has a crew of 9, i'm sure the RAF will still have a few hundred people left to operate them when the time comes.

What I got from the release is that RAF 'ers are attached to RAAF units to preserve MPA skillsets that were doomed to be lost when it transpired that standard new wings could not be retrofitted to custom built Nimrods and very nearly broke BAES("Bloody Awful Effort'Sir").

                  http://www.australiandefence.com.au/...-wedgetail-buy

RAF staff are starting to be embedded with 2 Sqn RAAF signalling that the E-7A is definitely in the mix as the UK's future AEW&C platform.

One wonders if eventually the RAF will also follow the RAAF into Growlers when it comes time to replace their SEAD focused Tornado F3's and move into serious EA capabilities as they are seemingly getting everything that complements it with JSF, P-8A with increment 3, and E-7.
