Panorama are doing a very interesting programme

all about re enactors and their (alledged) links and sympaties to the Nazi's and the SS

co incidentally the Telegraph on Saturday 25 August also ran a feature on another

group of lads who get their jollies out of dressing up as Nazi's

this group choose not a normal run of the mill German Army to recreate

    but a hardcore SS Unit-

where have I heard this before

the Sunday Times today 26 August also ran an article concerning these people.

An interesting thing was the groups claimed they helped out in promoting greater

understanding by appearing in films as extras such as Saving Pte Ryan and also

    appearing in schools and such

no film or tv people could be found that ever used them- no school admitted to using them.

On a previous thread on this very issue - I was informed of the very same stuff

and when I scoffed I was threatened etc.

My views on this group are well known

i feel sorry for the genuine re enactors and military vechicle enthuasist

who worked hard and have a genuine interest, that they will now be lumped in

with what can be perceived as Nazi sympathisers

    I pose a simple question

Should IMO which is a site intrinsically linked to the Irish Defence Forces

advertise or support in ANY way

ANY show that has in attendance ANY UNIT from any Army/ organisation etc

that has been convicted of a war crime.

to simplfly this- should we support shows that have SS Units- Khemer Rouge- the RPF

the murdering bastards in Crotatia, Serbia, Bosnia etc etc

As I am obviously totally against any idiots that glorify murdering bastards

I wont vote in this poll
    28
    Yes
    60.71%
    17
    No
    39.29%
    11

    The poll is expired.

    yes, but...

I agree, but where do you draw the line?

RAF Bomber Command in WWII, deliberately bombing civilians to 'break the will' of the German population? US Army in Vietnam and Iraq? French Army in Algeria?.........

No way! They're dressing up as bunch of murdering thugs, Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Why do the reenactors have to dress up as the mass murders? Whats wrong with a perfectly decent Wehrmacht unit?
Everyone who's ever loved you was wrong.

Is Ballyseedy considered a war crime? What about the Vikings pillaging throughout northern europe, Is it an appropriate nickname for an irish army unit?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Because they choose to. Dressing up as a murdering thug isn't the same thing as being a murdering thug.

There were no perfectly decent Wehrmacht units. The Wehrmacht was as much a part of the Nazi war machine as the SS.

            Jeez

Please note the name of the thread

I didnt say anything about Ballyseedy and the bullshite about the vikings

I take it your simply trying to get this thread off topic

mate I feel I should warn you here, I got 2 points for doing the very same thing

so out of comradeship- be wary of pulling this off topic, I would

hate the mods to have to slap you

lets have reasoned debate on the point at hand

Well the Brits were convicted over this:

Granted, there were no lads there in 58 pattern with SLRs, but there was an Alvis Saracen (as used extensively in NI) and various other bits of British Army kit which had been used in the north.

(And no, before anyone starts, I'm in no way saying that the people there wearing British uniform are a bunch of murderers)
