Richmond Barracks
This is an interesting photograph because of all of the barracks that existed in Dublin, Richmond is the one to suffer most from demolition with only a few recognisable traces of its existence. It is most definitely not Clancy but the Richmond barracks which existed east of Inchicore road -- the Garrison chapel, still in use as a church, is still visible.
One of the first British responses to the outbreak of the 1916 rising came from Richmond when a party of the Royal Irish Regiment marched off to investigate only to run into heavy fire from the rebels deployed in the old South Dublin Union (now James St hospital|).Comment
