Help with Pic of Relative

Hi

I have attached a photo that I have been given by a family member. I believe it may be my Great Grandfathers brother, Daniel Patterson. He served with the Free State Army during the Civil War. Can anyone confirm if this is in fact an Irish soldier of the Civil war era?

Hard to tell, but it looks like the uniform of an enlisted man in the early Free State Army...but it is nearly impossible to make out the cap badge...
