The medal cards for soldiers pre and post WW1 can be obtained off the National Archives based at Kew Gardens for a couple of pounds.
You mention Thomas Gorbey was a CSM. The Archives show:

L/Cpl Francis Reuben Gorbey, 1st Bn, Royal Irish Regt. Killed 23rd April 1915 according to the CWGC. Aged 25. Commemorated Menin Gate. Son of Mrs. E. Gorbey, of 9, The Terrace, Tranmore, Co. Waterford, and the late Mr. J. W. Gorbey. Casualty roll of the RIR confirms he was born in Villierstown, Co. Waterford, enlisted in Aldershot but gave an address as Carrick on Suir, Co. Tipperary.
