Whats a medal card?

A Medal Card is the paper work that list a British Soldiers entitlements during his service.

As there were many similar names you have to identify the one specific to your family.

Mons Star or the 1914/15 Star, British War Service Medal and a British Victory Medal

were the normal medals awarded even to those who died in action, died of war related wounds, etc..etc..

What you have is a Medal Index Card (MIC) and there are probably six names on it. What you need is the Medal Card which is for the individual soldier. As regards your dead relative, if he served he is entitled to those two medals at least. He obviously enlisted post 1914 in this instance.

Having recently downloaded a relatives WW1 medal cards, How do I make sense of them?
What information is contained on them? Of the 2 pages downloaded, it appears that the cards relate to more than one individual.

Also, if I am reading it correctly, this relative was awarded the British War and Victory medal. How is this possible if he died at Paschendale in 1917?
