  • D-Day anniversary

66 years ago today, the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, part of 6 (Brit) Airborne Bde, parachuted into Normandy, and was followed a few hours later by the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division landing on Juno Beach.

Here's the story of one Canadian Veteran of the operation:

    A D-Day reminder

"On the plains of hesitation, bleach the bones of countless millions, who on the very dawn of victory, laid down to rest, and in resting died.

    Never give up!!"

a brave and selfless man with an amazing and shocking story - the world we live in is a better place because of men like Vern Westhaver.

      Respect.

During my years in the Airborne Regiment, I had the honour to meet, and shake hands with, Men like Fraser Eadie, the last CO of the 1st Canadian Para Battalion, and Brig James Hill, who commanded the Bde that 1 Can Para was attached to.

More recently, as part of another unit, I had the privilege to meet Canadian Veterans from the First Special Service Force.

All of them are very inspiring Men. As is Vern Westhaver, and all Veterans from that era.
