Sniping in Ireland

Does anybody have any info on Snipers in the Defence Forces, pre 1970s !!!! During the Emergency and the Congo etc etc..... Training and Weapons used ???

Hi there,
From what my late grandfather told me, telescopic sights for the Lee-Enfield and the Springfield during the Emergency. Very little in the way of formal training like we'd know today, more on marksmanship, judging wind,etc,etc. He said that some men were allowed to select rifles for trueing by the armourer and that they were allocated extra ammunition. The ammunition wasn't match-grade or special-manufacture, just standard stuff.
