I saw a panhard on the 64 Bn accidentaly knock into a Merkhava and cause it to topple into the tiniest of ditches where it promptly shed a track- the lads in the Panhard nearly shit themselves but the Israelis broke their shite laughing,

The driver painted the sillouhete of an MBT on the Panhard.

Did the Irish knock out any enemy AFVs in the Congo?
HH, how in God's name could a Panhard shove a Merkava aside?
        regards

It happened at a place called Bayt Ya Haun Cross roads and the MBT was heading twoards the Blackhole while the panhard was coming from that direction- the road is quiet narrow with ditches one side and a sort of wadi the other- the MBT was just teetering on the wadi allowing the Panhard to pass - the Panhard accidentaly nudged the MBT and semi toppled it
into the wadi- the track was dislodged when it hit a bit of wall at a weird angle.

The IDF lads were just being polite as was our lads and it was an accident where no real damage was done- the MBT crew re fitted the track in no time at all and the Merkhava headed on its merry way.

During my early days there were a lot of Cogo heads still serving, I heard alot of storys/breaks about the Congo but never a mention of any armour being knocked out by the Irish.

Were not encouraged to the American built M8 greyhounds in the Congo due to their heavier weaponry.

Fords were primarily a recce vehicle at best, AFVs was an over simplistic terms when it came to referring to them.

                Would that not be unusual?
