I would be grateful if anyone could offer any information about the attached picture dating from WW1, which appears to be a group of NCOs of the Baden Grenadier Regiment. The picture was among a number that belonged to a Great Uncle who served with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers in France. This was the only one of German troops and I'm guessing that it may possibly have been taken from a captured German soldier or position. The only thing I know about the troops in the picture is that the man seated third from left is wearing the rank markings of a Company Sergeant Major (Feldwebel).

the guy with the moustache, third from right, has been awarded at least a Class 2 (IK 2) Iron Cross, because he is wearing the ribbon on the centre buttonhole. They could be Officer cadets (Offizieranwarter ?), ie, NCOs who aspire to become officers after demonstrating good service or they could be actual Officer cadets becasue their caps are of better standard than the usual brimless enlisted cap.

Many thanks for that. Yes, I thought the uniform was interesting, they seem to be wearing a pre-war dress uniform. The group definitely have a certain swagger about them and it is sad to think that many of them probably died in the war.
On a slightly related point, here is a photograph of the Uncle mentioned in my original post, wearing his Royal Dublin Fusiliers uniform c.1918. I was trying to figure out what the badge is that he is wearing on his right sleeve cuff, a wound badge perhaps?

The writing on the picture identifies them as the:
2 Bad(isches) Grenadier Regiment 110, "Kaiser Wilhelm I" Mannheim, 2 Korps, 1914 - 1916.
The numbered epaulettes were worn only in the very early war years.
The ribbon might be that of the Prussian Iron Cross (in my opinion a II Class award,)
as the I Class would be pinned directly to the uniform for such a picture as this.
However, its also possible its the ribbon for the Baden Military Service Medal,
particularly if the man in question is a long serving soldier and not one who joined up when the war started.
Is it possible to get a high resolution scan / pic of just the man with the ribbon?
Here is an interesting link with regards early WW1 uniforms associated with Germany:-
