I make costume. I am currently making a redcoat officer circa 1790. i have seen modern irish officers in their dress uniforms complete with accesories that are too difficult for me to make. where does the modern irish officer get his aguilettes etc? that i might see what can be used for my redcoat.?

I would try any of the military tailors or even ebay.

What's the red coat costume for- would love to see a picture of it.

It is what some would incorrectly call a "gold lanyard"

They used to be sold in the canteen board in McKee but I have no idea what happened to their stocks to be honest and kine is over a decade old so I cant help there either. There is a tailor called Joseph Martin that does a lot of DF uniforms and he might be able to help.

There is also a UK website www.messdress.com and you might find something there too.

Note the aiguillette worn by Aides de Camp (ADC). The origin of aiguillette. They were used to secure breast plates and other items of body armour. Just in case you wanted to know!

The manual calls them "Lanyard, Gold". So it is the correct name - the Mess uniform lanyard anyway.

              The manual is wrong!

What manual? The Manual of Clothes? The DF does not publish "manuals" for matters such as this. There is a DFR, A9 to be precise and a corresponding Admin Instruction but there is no manual

                    Ok,
                    AI A9.

As we are getting pedantic about things, An Aiguillette is only an aiguillette if it finishes in an aiguillette tip.

Officers Mess uniform Gold Lanyards end in a gold acorn, not an aiguillette, hence they are Lanyards, not aiguillettes. The AI is correct.

The aiguillettes worn by the ADCs end in an aiguillette tip and are therefore aiguillettes. AI A9 refers to them as such.

An aiguillette tip is as follows.
