      • Having visited fortifications in Normandy recently that were in a far worse state of repair than any of our own I asked myself the question had any been preserved and why not all..answer..cost.

The majority are all but ruins but it took only one to give a good reflection of what the rest would be like if one was properly preserved.

Crisbecq comes to mind. It was perfect but the big problem..it is now privately owned and had been purchased by tow buisness mne and they funded the whole preservation them selves.

Ok so we have Fort Dunree here which is preserved to some degree but is not really reflective of all the forts, Fort Charles in Kinsale is a step in the right direction but in the case of the port Forts in Cork and given the level of preservation required its not going to come from state funding any time soon.

Now there is anothe issue that comes to light, in France no matter what the condition these areas are open to the public .Pointe Du Hoc in particular has only minimal fencing in critical areas with the rest open to the public, but here we lock the whole thing down.

is it reflective of our compenstation culture?

Is our heritage being locked away from us because of the greed endemic in society , bears some thought I think!
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

Absolutely the correct analysis. To our great loss.

Plenty of friends there. Will be getting a full break down of your flying abilities!!

                    • Fort Camden open for visit. The group working on the project have restored a section to great success.

                      Recommend to all.
