I know in the past you mentioned the issues you had with it, but what do you think requires changing at this stage? Is it even a practical combat jacket any more with the increasing used of plate carriers, battle vest etc.
Other forces seem to have gone back to the old style "combat jacket" as opposed to "smock" it appears.

I believe we still have a need for non thermal layer that sits in between the UBACS and the waterproofs. The smock in it's last two incarnations was too long and incomapatable with GSBA and now is too short and no good for protecting you from the elements. My personal choice would be to wadi the smock. Separate the Fleece from its softshell outer and move back to a more layered system similar to what ECWCS/PCU/VKBO. Different layers for different tasks."Let us be clear about three facts. the basic layers the British Army have appear to be:
T-shirt
Micro fleece base layer thermal shirt
Lightweight jacket (this to us is a shirt)
micro fleece mod-layer thermal smock
Windproof smock

First off we need to stop copying our nearest neighbours and start thinking for ourselves.Look more at Europe and the states.We need a jacket that is rain resistant and dries fast which can be thrown over a UBACS or norgie. Not at present. Going by previous years tenders for DF uniforms they tend to be published around the same time. Mid February. Nearly there now I would say.
