Ours is pooled but we get the same Everytime and I can guarantee that

    • I'm just remembering how much sweat built up on the seal of my goggles... when I was in a flippin panhard! Pool issue of PPE is a no-no. Have they learnt nothing from Army Deafness?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

Neither was I. And at the early stages of the USP I'm service, and open to correction here, it was required to wear protective eyewear?

Absolutely no fookin way should eye goggles be pool issue, for hygiene reasons. Should be on personal issue

          • 2023. Nearly there. Hopefully the tenders go out in Q1 as planned.Be very interesting to see what items of kit are staying. What’s being discontinued and what’s being altered in terms of design. One things for sure. The smock needs to be revisited.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

            • The new smock or the old smock?

                • I know in the past you mentioned the issues you had with it, but what do you think requires changing at this stage? Is it even a practical combat jacket any more with the increasing used of plate carriers, battle vest etc.
Other forces seem to have gone back to the old style "combat jacket" as opposed to "smock" it appears.

                  • I believe we still have a need for non thermal layer that sits in between the UBACS and the waterproofs. The smock in it's last two incarnations was too long and incomapatable with GSBA and now is too short and no good for protecting you from the elements. My personal choice would be to wadi the smock. Separate the Fleece from its softshell outer and move back to a more layered system similar to what ECWCS/PCU/VKBO. Different layers for different tasks.

“non thermal layer” ? So like the smock (but not current design)?

like the Arktis stow away shirt maybe?

the basic layers the British Army have appear to be:
                      T-shirt
Micro fleece base layer thermal shirt
Lightweight jacket (this to us is a shirt)
                      micro fleece mod-layer thermal smock
                      Windproof smock

UBACS is in the mix obviously too

                      • First off we need to stop copying our nearest neighbours and start thinking for ourselves.Look more at Europe and the states. We need a jacket that is rain resistant and dries fast which can be thrown over a UBACS or norgie. Compatible with IMBAS.

Not at present. Going by previous years tenders for DF uniforms they tend to be published around the same time. Mid February. Nearly there now I would say. Interesting in that an RFP for the Service dress uniform was posted on etenders before Christmas but not for the operational uniform.

Missed this. Are we finally going high collar?
What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem.
