  • Battle Vest Variants and Accessories

Has anyone actually seen one of the helicopter crew variants of the battle vest that supposedly exist? It's on the tag that comes with any new battle vest. Same with the Lowe Alpine pistol holster that no one seems to actually have seen.

I have seen both. The holsters were only ever issued to overseas units as pool issue. No harm as they are a poor design. The Aircrew battle vest never took off(pardon the pun) as amazingly the material was not rated for fire safety. Swiftly replaced with another brand of aircrew vest that was fit for purpose.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

What did they do with the remaining aircrew vests so. I'm shocked they'd make such a mistake. Procurement never makes mistakes. Heavy sarcasm.

I’m assuming the only people who needed them were a couple of handfuls (at very most) of aircrew on (non-GASU) EC135 and AW139s

Correct. Not allowed to wear them inflight. Waste of money.
