Do you believe that there was a genuine threat to funding if the vessels were appropriately armed or was it a convenient excuse to avoid spending the money required to do so?

30km out. No mean feat. Very well done.
Interesting to note the island hopper lacks the floatation gear fitted on the Athlone-Belfast delivery in the previous post.
Also interesting is the usefulness of the clamshell doors for cargo.
Not a US Army type - Air Force.
The dreaded seven engine approach.
Regarding overflight this like all military overflights will have been subject to the seeking and granting of diplomatic clearance to transit.
ATC are aware...
That name went out with the Gloster Gladiator...
So, as an observer reading this post it's clear from the wider DF viewpoint this sits somewhere between Bertie Ahern's canary yellow G8 monstrosity and that orange away jersey Vs Macedonia in the...
Your ideas for Baldonnel are similar to the current use of RAF Northolt.
No problem and I completely agree about Shannon.
The former 13/31 in Shannon could be a candidate for resurfacing and restoration as a crosswind runway. It was listed as available until about 7...
I'll let others look for the statistics but I can speak from first hand experience of operating into Knock. Knock implements LVPs more frequently than other Irish airports with the exception of Cork....
And there still would be no getting away from the fact Knock, like Cork Airport is built at the top of a hill and suffers from a higher proportion of fog bound days than more suitable located...
I'd be more inclined to think it was a nice bit of business by the Portuguese.
Serious question, given the first post in this thread dates back to 2003, after 17 years how alive is this acquisition?
Reality check. There has never been a fire in Ireland that would have required a fixed wing water bomber to bring it under control. We do not have vast areas of forested wilderness where such fires...
It's high time to look at the end destination of the trainee pilot and work backwards from there. The raison d'etre of the PC-9 is not to be the ultimate type a PC-9 trainee will ever fly.
Define...
If we're looking at the same photo that would be a taxiway so not overly important. Apologies if not.
If you want to see a hump our nearest neighbours are expert at including them in runway...
Have a close look at the third photo. A perfect illustration of why gloss finish is a terrible idea for an ISR aircraft.
If money is looking tight for the foreseeable the repurposing of the current CASAs might be of interest again.
The current thinking that you absolutely must retire an aircraft to justify...
Some very interesting pics on the IAC Twitter account of the second aid delivery by a CASA to Beirut. Aircraft fully loaded with pallets full length around the MPA operators console.
In all fairness Ireland given far more in the betterment of Lebanon than most on that list.
First Mig-21s now Antonov 26s?? Are you thinking the museum is short of numbers?
Regarding delivery delays, you would hope that lessons have been learned from the Dauphin and an impractical bespoke fit-out has not overly complicated it.
This may not be a popular opinion but while the museum inhabits a hangar it cannot be said that there is insufficient hangar space.
It is most satisfying to see this type of folly from the department, which I'm sure has been replicated multiple times over the decades, being laid bare by a FOI request and widely distributed on...
Yet again the Dept/Sec Gen stifles the betterment of the organisation they oversee. Seems like denying funds for the sake of it with funds available. What's so hard to grasp? Buy two to guarantee...
