  • LE Wiliiam Butler Yeats twinned with Galway City

Just on Galway Bay FM Radio this morning that the new naval ship "LE William Butler Yeats" is to be twinned with Galway City in a ceremony at Galway Docks on Monday 17th of October, the Taoiseach Enda Kenny will be there to formally do the twinning, great that the Navy will continue to have a ship twinned with Galway following the decommissioning of LE Aisling.

Is commissioning happening on that day too?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

I don't know but they mentioned the Taoiseach, the Mayor and City Council will be there so given that line up you could be right.

Video of the Air Corps PC9 Flypast of "LE William Butler Yeats" at Galway Docks today, it was so windy even the noise of the aircraft was drowned out, could not get any pictures of the ceremony as during the night 6 foot high fencing with blackout covers was placed around the length of the docks.

Seems Enda had this to say during the event:
Plans for a new Naval Service ship which is equipped to provide full medical facilities at sea have been endorsed by Taoiseach Enda Kenny.

The White Paper on Defence promises a multi-purpose vessel equipped with a fully functioning hospital, Mr Kenny said in Galway docks on Monday.

This would allow medical personnel to serve in “war and conflict situations”, Mr Kenny said. He was speaking at the commissioning of the Naval Service’s latest new patrol ship, LÉ William Butler Yeats.

Mr Kenny said it was “his wish” that such a multi-purpose ship – still at pre-design stage – would be built to serve in humanitarian crises. It was in “keeping with our rich tradition of charity and volunteering”, he said.

Its a ploy to get it past the peace loving anti American kids in the dail.

Kind of like what the gov had to do to get the 50meter pool built up in Abbotstown, said it was for the kids in the special O' limpicks, worked a treat.

If we use NATO style Role levels, then a logistics ship , in an anticipated environment, should be equipped and manned, for specific periods, to a Role 2 level with four/six adaptable beds, and a theater. I would expect that units forward would do their own Role 1, including triage, and send those for further treatment back to the most appropriate service, or to home hospitals. Manning would have to be selective to cover anticipated use.

please stay on topic. If you wish to discuss a planned vessel please use another thread or start a new one, this one is for the WBY, let her have her moment.

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"
