The international competitors must be at a disadvantage in terms of local knowledge and insider info on the comp events. Hopefully the experience gained by the Irish lads will add to our annual sniper comp.

OK so last night I was surfing and came across the military channel when the International Sniper competition was just starting. It was an hour long program and members of the Irish team were featured and interviewed several times throughout. I must say I felt an enormous sense of pride watching them. They one two events - the strange thing was that both events were things that they had never done before - the .50 cal and firing from a hovering Blackhawk.

It was a team from the 28th that represented Ireland and it looked like (on the show at least) that they were the only foreign team that actually won an event. There were a few foreign teams that they didn't talk to and blurred their faces (Aussie SAS I think).

I don't know if it will be shown in Europe but it's not on Youtube yet. The only reference I found to the competition was this one (and it only features US teams).

They and the country as a whole should be very proud of them.

It just started showing on TV here this month so give it some time. Here is a link to the page for the show on the history channel - it happens that the competitor on the page is one of the Irish team.

Just watched the show. The winning team was awarded customised rifles. I wonder how the Gardai would have reacted to the request for import for them? One at least was a a semi-auto.

No problem for the Army, for indvidules getting the export licence for the US would be the tough part. I've seen semi-autos up to .308 held by civvies here.

Those yanks though, they spend their life shooting, talking about shooting, tweking their weapons, hand filling their loads etc. It was a good show by the troops. I hope they got some range time with the .50 prior to going. In the end its all down to time spent putting rnds down range.

Day 1 Pic 5, The Sergeant in front. Are they dutch para wings or the Irish ones??? I have never seen the Irish ones and they look similar to the Dutch ones. (although I am now 20 hrs without sleep so I could be seeing things!)
