      • WHatever about having a US carrier in dublin bay, very few in government would support Big E's reactor being parked yards from the homes of the great and good.

        • Oh no doubt, better keep the nuclear reacters a few dozen miles more away and ready to supply us with electricity if there's a shortfall.

No nukes here, they're over there, in the neighbours backyard.

          • And that makes them sleep sound at night.
You know of course the interconnector will only give us nice healthy wind generated British Electricity, not the nasty nucular stuff.

            • This one will be worth seeing.

Vise-Admiral Kulakov visits Cobh on August 30th 2012 arriving 8am. Its the first time in many years that a Naval Vessel has occupied the Cruise Terminal.
It's an Uladoy Class Destroyer. Recently visited Portsmouth.

                        • US destroyer ( USS Scott) in Cobh. , it was 84...Russian destr0yer due along side at same time also. The Yank Destroyer/ had been in first and the Russians due the next day.
For a couple of days it seemed as if there was a guy camped out on the Focsle with a book or news paper relaxing, but the morning the russkies appeared it was bit foggy and the guy was still there. Next think a shadow looms out of the murk and this guy springs into life with a bout half a dozen cameras shooting of film like it there was no tomorrow to discover it was the Cork Port Dredger!..On lookers were in hysterics laughing while the guy legged it deck chair and cameras in tow.

Russkies did arrive sometime later...without the photo shoot!

Ah yes. The top secret Naval spy ship "Ringacoltig". If she couldn't dig up dirt on you, nobody could.

The US ship was the Knox class FF1094 USS Pharris. She had her own game on when she arrived bearing the Pennant number "1099". The Soviet destroyer was "Soobrazitelny", A Kashin class Destroyer. To be fair, the Soviets were far more entertaining and welcoming to the locals than the stuffy Yanks. There was a Dutch Frigate in around the same time. Pure coincidence, honest.
