    That Dragon is the business

    listen up you sea hags

    adopt the dragon now
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

          Hi all
          The old Marchettis in the Don all had cartoon character stickers on the fins, such as Pepe and Yosemite Sam and Goofy,I think. No particular significance attached to each but they survived several official attempts to remove them. Heli Flight were great men for cartoons and other kinds of unofficial drawings appearing on the aircraft and the flying kit, with their Pink Panther appearing on helmets and doors. The tails of an Alouette and a Cessna were adorned with fine commemorative paintwork, stretching the length of the tail on each one, for their length of service (30 yrs for the A.III) and signed by the unit members. These were done by a very talented artist who still serves in Heli. There were also some unofficial "tags"(unit stickers or actual graffitti) applied on several Don aircraft when visiting foreign airshows/airbases. So, there is a long tradition of adorning Service vehicles/ships/aircraft in the DF and long may it continue, as long as it doesn't degenerate to the level of the porn applied to RAF aircraft in the Gulf Wars.
          regards

                    An army is power. Its entire purpose is to coerce others. This power can not be used carelessly or recklessly. This power can do great harm. We have seen more suffering than any man should ever see, and if there is going to be an end to it, it must be an end that justifies the cost. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

                      Last of the Mohicans acording to irishmilitaryinsignia.com

                      It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
                      It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
                      It was a new age...It was the end of history.
                      It was the year everything changed.

                          Knows as mohicans due to the original antennae configuration, which placed most of the radio aerials on the ships centrline, looking through certain eyes as if the ship wore a Mohican.

                          Deirdre was a Mammoth, the original of the species(from an old britvic ad)
                          Emer is Pepe le Pew, due to the stink from her waste treatment plant,
                          Aoife is the Wicked witch of the west(witch on broomstick wearing sailors hat) as the character aoife in irish folklore is the witch who changed the children of Lir into swans.

                          One of the peacocks is a gun toting Yosemite Sam, while the other is Roadrunner.

                            Sorry Goldie but you are well off the mark there pal. The Mohecian came about circa 1995-6 and was submitted in a competition ran by the XO and the prize was something like a rugby Jersey with the winning crest as it was close to foreign trip season and that was the time to get such things.

                            A couple young A/Seamen came up with the Idea because Aisling was the last of the P.20 class to be built, hence "The last of the Mohecians". The idea went down a treat and one of the A/Sea who had come up with the idea was a keen artist and sketched what can be seen on the funnel badge today.............FACT. No MASTS at all.

                            Any other questions ??
