FFS ... is that it , Just when it was getting interesting,, You still have not commented on the ARW /rebel incident..
As regards APOD comments my posts may question some of the assumption that people accept . I however think that the comments re the ARW incident are still valid , its just luckly that the rebels had no hostile intent , otherwise the Chad mission could have come to a very quick end..

I can't comment on it because I wasn't there. Neither were you.

How do you know what their intent was? Maybe they didn't have the bottle to take on the lads. Maybe the lads weren't as surrounded and vulnerable as you think.

And my Dad will kick your dads ass. Now Pissing contest over? Good.

Personally I think the Wing get paid feck all considering they have to do stuff that is Dangerous as hell. But, Compared to other countries it isnt too bad. And in the Contracter industry they could get soo much more but they dont go that way and that is where alot of my respect for them comes from.
I probably am wrong, sorry about that!!!

Please PM me to correct me.

But, not if I state an opinion, only if I state something as truth!!!

I have bad opinions but I stick by them!!!

I'm not quite sure how defending the reputation of the Defence Forces and a Unit within the Defence Forces from asinine comments can be considered a pissing contest as some other clown calls it and you intimate. You being the self professed biggest dick I'm sure you can enlighten me.

If you rise above the child-like insult exchanging for a moment, I think you will understand the point I am making is that it is impossible to verify anyones credentials here.
In particular, questioning someones credentials and insulting them, because you claim to be "defending the reputation", seems a tad ironic, don't you think?

Bandit has many times in the past put his career on record here since he begun posting in 2005. It is easily verifiable.

                    Who are you?

                      Which one is it then?

With regard to the insults flying I accept your point, the blood was a bit on the boil. I retract them and apologise. At the end of the day they are Irish troops serving their Country overseas in difficult conditions. They should be supported and not exposed to critisism based on presumption, ignorance or prejudice. Bandit allegedly knows the rules of academia, if it can't be supported it can't be printed.

I dont think so.No more thyan when Derek mooney(R.I.P) was killed less than 2 weeks into the Liberia mission. The mission would go on.Thats why we are called professional soldiers.

hear, hear. Those lads and the troops that went out this week face a long slog and it wont be easy.I think a little less of the armchair generaling around here would be better.lets just support them instead.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

Hurrah lets all have Militaryphotos.net/Daily Star - "Our troops are so amazing they make me so horny" type posts instead.

Perhaps a better resolution would be for people to employ a bit of reflexive critical reasoning before posting. Consider what might be wrong in what you're saying before you go charging in like a complete see you next tuesday.

Apod has a point though, too much of this smarmy let's pull sh*t down so we don't seem so small attitude appears on this board and is a reflection of a broader Irish society which puts individual preferences and interests above all else.
The Defence Forces thankfully remains at least slightly insulated against this sort of thinking by the nature of its purpose. Something posters on this board should strive to exemplify.

Pay and allowances of specialist units are reflected by the size of the military

and the military Budget each country has to spend.

Not much point in going whining to the papers and in the process revealing info

that should be kept under ones little green cap
