I dont like the way this is put across as an unusual incident and a case of loyalty to the crown on the part of volunteers from nationalist backgrounds.
Irish units still do similar gestures with the music they play, that way noone gets offended with the music that is played. It is normal enough to hear the sash followed by the wearing of the green played in the same set!

Queens company rotates, if you sign on for 5 yrs you can expect to perform ceremonial duties, which last about 6 months, the whole regiment also does trooping the colour. The IG perform drill to a high standard, of which they are proud of. You also get the option of doing P company and doing 18 months with 3 Para, due to the disbandment of the guards para company.

If you dont like ceremonial or drill dont join the guards or the RAF regiment.

The IG are far more southern friendly then the RIR, most guardsmen are recruited from London, Liverpool and Manchester and of Catholic Irish immigrant origins.

Afghanistan is penciled in for 2010.

Some regiments do not all, the senior regiments, ie the household divisions origins are in fighting and serving the King, bar the Coldstream guards who fought for Cromwell.

Others like the Northumberland fusiliers were formed from the Tyneside Irish reg, the Liverpool kings reg from Irish immigrants, etc, etc.

Lets not forget though this is not the Rock Apes as a whole. The largest amount of cermonial is performed by the QCS.

Not true hedgehog, you emit venom especially to newbies when they offer dissent.

    The Constitution states
Article 9,1;2 Fidelity to the nation and loyalty to the State are fundemental political duties of all citizens.
How is that compatible with joing the Brits and then swearing loyalty to the British Monarch?
Something that pisses me off ( apart from hedgehog who insists on not taking his bran flakes) is to see Irish tricolours and shamrocks being carried on British Military vehicles.

A suggested poll. Is IMO a recruiting sgt. for the Brits.

Im a newbie here and didn't want to start another poll on a topic thats probably been talked to death but I have to ask as it is sort of related to this thread topic, what do you all think about us northerners joining the RDF? Im asking because I am interested in it myself but coming from the north there is no one I know that has any experience with being in the defence force. If that wasn't enough im 29 yrs old aswell (yes 29) so is it going to be waste of time evening trying to join as I know most of the recruits are somewhat younger than myself? any advice is much appreciated. Thanks

I know several. Problem is, where do you keep your unifrom....can't take it home and can't travel to training in it.

Strictly speaking that is not true

I emit venom to new and old bies when they dissent from my thinking

so therefore if you dont want venom to be emittted then

    simply agree with me

what could be simpler than that

Not an option in my opinion, but thanks all the same. As I said im very interested in joining the RDF but i've had bother even getting an application form. Someone took my name and address but I never got it in the post, the other times I tried im told each time there is no one in the office who deals with applications. I was just wondering is every stage of my application going to be like this or have I just got off to a bad start??

Does this mean I would have to travel to the barracks to lift my uniform before every training session no matter where the training is held?
