Depends as to whether the funding for the two new ships is seperate or not?

Unit Adjutant of his former unit would be the best place to start.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

Thinking out loud A19 Para 54 has a "former members" in it so when the unit is doing the medal return get the CS to include him on the list ; you may need to formally write to the Adj/OC/Admin officer as necessary though to get it formalised. If it was a disbanded unit you may need to apply through A Admin Sec DFHQ

Those returns are normally only sought once a year, both from como and epmo. Formally write to Bn OC, explaining your case, include your service no. and copy of discharge papers if you have them. That should help the clerks find your details. Dont be surprised if this was already applied for and was in your units stores. I know of at least three who tried to create murder that they never got their medals, only to be shown a copy of a letter sent to them explaining that their medals were into stores and ready for collection. Not all units arrange parades for medals.

Covid-19 is having a negative impact on the future of the RDF. At a time when numbers are low, recruitment stopped and a commission to report next year there will only be a large net loss in numbers, those who loose interest because training basically stopped but will stay on the books for two years cloggingthe place up, those to retire on age, those who are fed up, not going to wait for the implementation of the commission report and leave.
What will the numbers be like by March 22?
Those with specific skills most likely to stay on, see the results of commission, if positive stat, if no real change some will leave and recruitment gets harder.

Not sure which thread to post in but looking for advice, do you need to seek permission to submit to this, if your comments are about operations etc and your saying your a serving member of the RDF.

Former @dfreserve member @The_Irish_Texan will be editing an upcoming publication entitled "Defend, Protect, Serve: The Irish Defence Forces and Contemporary and Future Threats – an Edited Collection". Call for submissions now open. Great opportunity for RDF/AR/NSR papers... https://t.co/9M3FYSSclX

Technically there is a paragraph in A7

Articles or letters by officers, non-commissioned officers or men, on matters having any bearing on the Defence Forces generally, or on any arm or branch thereof, and intended for publication in any newspaper, journal or book, whether over the name of the writer, or under a nom-de-plume, or otherwise by arrangement with the publication concerned, shall first be submitted in duplicate through the usual military channels to the Director of Intelligence for approval by the Minister

Thanks, to minister via DJ2 and CoC. RDFRA should include that on their tweet to be fair or some one could be in hot water.

I think the NSR will be fine as you go to sea with ns. But I fear for the AR, I think it will get smaller and specialist only.

Those personnel who go to sea are few and far between.

Also the same story with duties, i haven't seen the NSR on a base duty for many a year.

Loads turned out when ships were involved in testing alongside (high profile and on PDA) but again since that ceased, i haven't seen many around.

If the NSR mindset changed, they would be a valuable asset for the NS, and be developed past the Seaman branch only.

I'd like to see any specialised skills with the NSR, being harnessed in a similar capacity to the reserve element of 2 Bde CIS Coy.

The reserve must be fit for purpose, and not just dressing up in uniform for ceremonial and pictures.

It can be, with a correct midset from the NSR and the NS.

we took another step backwards today with the Government not bothering to make the promised amendments to the Defence Act to allow overseas reserve service.
