L.E. Samuel Beckett currently cruising at 12kn off the coast of Maine. I wonder will it hit NY in time for the taoiseach to wine and dine the natives aboard following his heroic address to the UN Climate action summit. President Michealdee will address the UN on Wednesday.

Timings are a bit of a mystery as there is a Presidential visit to the ship in New York ( Nua-Eabhrac ) at 4pm Saturday 28th September. The ship will arrive tomorrow or Wednesday.

    Near the UN building.

    Logistical reasons I'd imagine.

Is it near a good pub?

Looking on google maps there seems to be an FDNY EMS station next door, I'm sure they can direct the crew to the nearest drinking hole

Coming back from liberty was always a bit vague as one tends to have consumed too much of the local brew...... going on liberty used to be a buzz with youngfellas ( come to think of it some of the oldfellas were as bad) thinking they were going to be the sexiest thing in Bantry for a night.. the amount of ironing, showering, saving, deodorants, , hair gel, after shave etc used to make the atmosphere toxic.

    Looking back it was hilarious.

The only guy guaranteed to pull was the PO ERA.. as his wife was living there......
Time for another break I think......

I'm a bit old school but, using the Ship's Honour Guard , as a relaxed photo opportunity, is a bit SPUDS and BACON. It loses it's HONOUR.

Indeed , it does look strange . Although it is on the minister's Twitter Account looking like a PR opportunity for political gain , just look at the hashtag .

The faces of everyone else in the photo tells it's own story. He dragged a ship to Rosslare for a medal parade cos he couldn't be arsed travelling to Haulbowline, but has no problem winging it to NYC for a photo op. Let's face it, he had no other legitimate business there.

They're shipping up to Boston. (Presumably to find a wooden leg...)

We went up through the Chesapeake Canal in 1986 and when we arrived at the Navy Yard in Boston, we found the berth was between two of the most historic ships in the US Navy OLD IRONSIDES( Constitution) and USS CASSIN YOUNG. Just don't break anything!

Niamh was in the same berth during the 00s.

Eithne was also at that berth in 2009

Eithne was at the Seaport Blvd berth in 2000 for the Tall Ships festival.

Should be a regular visit every 3 or so years.

    Great experience.

Not a place for HMS Troutbridge then - "Left hand down a bit!"
