    The NS Potential NCO course has been recognised by FETAC(or whatever they are called these days). They have trained as supervisors after all.

    Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

    Did you ever think you would see the day when Leading Pirates would have a scroll of achievement?

    Its a level six award by HETAC and its great that personnel in the PDF are getting certification that reflects their academic achievement.

    The PDF send some members of the Medical Corps onto Paramedic Courses run by the National Ambulance Training School. These come back recognised as Paramedics and can go onto the PHECC register as Paramedics.

    Army get what used to be a Diploma (now degree I think) having done Std NCOs Cse (for promotion to sergeant), there are also a number of other criteria, including a overseas tour.

    Cadets get a honours degree having completed their cadetship.

    What qualifications do the medics in the NS have in order to go to sea on one of the NS ships?

    The award is not retrospective.

    As these people go on in their careers they will hopefully receive a HETAC level 7 (ordinary degree) in Naval Leadership & Management on successful completion of their Senior NCOs Cse.

    The award takes into consideration all the courses they have done from basic training, branch training and professional courses.

    It is great that a person who might not other wise have a trade cert or professional quailification will have something concrete to show if they seek employment in civvi street.

    I think its a brilliant idea

    it should be for all branches of the DF not just the navy

    well done who ever came up with the idea
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    I agree with hedgehog - its a great idea - puts the sailor at the centre of the system - the navy really has voyaged to an understanding!

    By the nature of the job recognition of management skills both at commisioned and non comissioned should be mandatory.

    While the life skills are often appreciated they are very rarely noted and certified, this has to a be a huge step forward in recognising that people even at junior management levels, after all NCOS are team leaders and management within departments.

    Given that HETAC is a recognised level of achievement the promotion of this culture of recognition and education is to applauded.

    While the professional aspect of the job has been recognised for years with skills training been a precursor to entry to managemnt level the people skills were often neglected.

    This is a great step forward in recognising these skills and a great effort to channel peole through recognised man mangement skills.

    Well done to all involved, nice to see the NS taking a very positive step towards qualifying its people to manage the most valuable resource the service has..its people.

    its time for you to put pen to paper hedge to your senior officers... as in civie street they will know by you that the serviceman is able to adjust to ANY job he is given but this is a great idea when you submit a cv to a company..

    A cert for a Pots course? Jesus wept! My pots course was all about sweating with a GPMG.Nothing clever about that. If the DF is so smart, how come they still won't run an in house Technical NCOs course(like every other grown-up air force world wide) for aircraft technicians in the AC and insist that they waste their time doing the Standard Army course(unlike the NS). Parts of the DF are still in the Stone Age..........

    I don't think the Cadets is a degree, I thought that's why you went to UCG or whatever for your degree before/after commissioning.

    Senior PDF C&S is recognised as some manner of postgrad I think.
