When will they learn proper speakin'?
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

      Are you even remotely surprised?

I know I'm not, it's almost expected at this stage.

For the love of god can people please stop using abstract abbreviations....Half of the threads on IMO these days look like a dyslexic spat alphabet soup at a screen. If it's not in the common parlance please provide the full explanation. /rant.

FR clothing tends to be more expensive so thats probably a factor.Another factor is that by their very design the most flammable part, the breathable core,is under the CBA. That's not by accident and exactly why the sleeves are a different material.

"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

TLA's are great for generally accepted terms. But as per all military communications, the abbreviation if not in common parlance should be spelled out in its first iteration in that communication . People seem to get a kick out of using abstract TLA's without reference around here. On more than one occasion I've put an abbreviation from this site to a group of military minded folk and not one could tell me the meaning. Even with context included.

No way! Now you can't observe from the distance.

I don't buy that argument. You could apply that to ANY officer in DPM, that being the case. Most other armies in the world would have their Generals in subdued rank markings in DPM - except maybe North Korea!

                      • The embroidered cap badge can look strange and a bit like the OR cap badge at a distance.

Red rank markings - March briskly on a tangent

Interesting times. They'll have to do mass issue to everyone, sgt majors everywhere will loose the plot of there's a mix of brown and black boots.
