The MRV could potentially spend a lot of time with trainees aboard
Britannia Maritime Aid is more than that with a Chairman Capt K Slade and backed by Cammell Laird who produced a presentation for International Shipping Week in 2019 on the 135m Ro-Pax vessel. The Concept has the backing of the British parliament and two former Sea lords including Admiral Alan West. Our MRV will certainly be ideal for a substantial training role for all Services.

Getting the backing of Parliament, whether thet be the Commons, Lords or Select Committee, unfortunately does not mean it will be successful, especially if they go back to Westminster looking for funds.
It was the year of fire...the year of destruction...the year we took back what was ours.
It was the year of rebirth...the year of great sadness...the year of pain...and the year of joy.
It was a new age...It was the end of history.
It was the year everything changed.

True. Most support is from the Upper house led by Alan West. However the actual build of NSMV's by the US and the using them as a training source for those following a seagoing career is interesting and another use for our MRV, especially in an all services role.

        • Department of Defence targets new €200m, multi-purpose naval ship

The Department of Defence has confirmed it intends to proceed with purchasing a new Multi-Role Vessel (MRV) for the Naval Service, which could be used as a hospital ship and would be capable of carrying troops and helicopters for amphibious and airborne landings.

          • So has it gone to tender?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

From what they in DOD say they are awaiting tender returns to gauge a final overall cost. They expect a ship around 2025, hopefully berthage and homeport is established in the meantime. Training for the roles will be a big part for PDF components. Whatever about length, the final length should be in proportion to a breadth of 20m or so. Best of luck with everything, a great asset for in fleet logistics. The RN have returned to Mediterranean with Albion and a Bay logs ship in support.

No the requirements are still being worked out by the project team

I would imagine the specs will be a lot more detailed than the EPV tender

                  • I know my 2 cents mean SFA in this but I think it should have a helo deck etc even if we don't initially have a helo for it, if only to allow other forces birds to be accommodated.

                          No plan for that.

That would only be required if a Naval helo was to be embarked on a permanent basis.
