  • Hydration bladders/packs online or otherwise.

I'm looking for a good bladder for a hydration pack, that could be put into a rucksack and stand up to use in the field. Any suggestions. I'm not rolling in money, but if it is a good product, I'll happily forgo a few nights out for it.

    Hey,
I got the Source WXP Bladder last year. I would recommend it. Its tough, has a double lock feature for the right angled mouth piece so you can have it half open if your drinking often( twist to unlock, then pull out with teeth and suck to drink.

The bladder can also be fully opened at the top so you can easily clean the bladder. You can fit your hand inside! It also has a wide screw on lid with a hanging loop.

I've rolled over on it while it was in the back holder of my assault vest a few times during SIAs and PIAs,sat on it while in my bergen and it still kept going. I fill the bladder using the top opening. You have to ensure this is closed properly or you may have a small bit of leakage with applied pressure but very small.

RVOps supplies high quality, specialist military equipment, clothing, Lowa boots and accessories serving the British Army and Royal Marines.

In my experience, Source do a better bladder, but Camelbak do a better hose and valve. Either way, you'll do well to get a 3L bladder.

Are bladders really that much of an advantage over the old black water-bottle (or two/three of the same)?

I've never used one (just do general hiking / hillwalking these days), and I still use a few Sigg bottles, I never find them a drag. A few daysacks I have have facilities to carry a bladder, what are the advantages of them? (Not wishing to hijack the thread, just curious)

I mentioned a few reasons before HERE

          - you can hydrate on the move or static without taking your hand off you weapon,
          - if static, (lying in wait) you're not moving your body too much to reach for the water bottle pouch
          - a camelbak can carry more water
          - you can fit purifying filters to a camelbak, making it easier to source drinking water
          - it makes less noise than a half filled water bottle

Fair enough. All good reasons and I follow them.

Mind you, I'm too old and knackered for any of those to be a consideration any more, so I'll keep going with my old black bottle and Sigg!

This is the one I use (£35 Stg).

Basically a Camelbak with cover. Cover comes with straps so can be worn on its own or can also be put on under the side pockets of the issue Rucksack. D Rings allow it to be attached to anything with straps. Long tube but doesn't have the L turn that the Source has.

Same bladder as the issue bladder so goes with all the issue accessories (not that you will see them much) but handy to have the CBRN attachment that goes with the FM-12 if you ever see youself in a position to do CBRN training.

I was of the same opinion until I used one, now I always have one in my daysack for hill walks etc. I even use it on long runs.

Another brand of hydration system is platypus, I have never had an issue with that brand.

A long run for me these days is from the front of the train to the back and then back to the front because some bugger has opened a door after I left it! Mind you, the trains are 220M long!

I thinK I will get one, as the consensus is so strongly in favour of them. As they say, 1000 lemmings can't be wrong
