I believe pilot, crewman/EMT and HSE AP

    • Correct. EMT is HSE also, not sure how much crewman duties he has to fulfill though. However, medics with Medevac 112 carry out comms duties and basic competencies for landing prep, nav, etc.

        • Ireland’s first charitably funded Air Ambulance, operated by Irish Community Rapid Response staffed by National Ambulance Service medical personnel is to be grounded indefinitely from the 3rd April 2020 due to lack of funds. The service has flown over 351 missions in just under 8 months since it beg

          ICRR permanently grounded

          • Not surprising. My club had planned a fundraising run for them in a couple of weeks. Like many other events, we had to cancel. All charities are suffering at present. All fundraising events have been cancelled, and cash donations have probably dried up too.
At a time when this type of service is more vital than ever.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

            • They need at least 1 major corporate sponsor

              • The London HEMS always manage. Maybe their funding model is thinking small? So many multinational pharma and medical instrument manufacturing in Ireland, surely one would like to see their name on the side of this fantastic service?

                  Obviously not!

If it’s needed, and a case can be made, then the state should provide it, the country has a big enough economy to do it without looking for charity.
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
                  Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

                  • It is a pity about ICRR but the question of funding is always going to be an issue. Maybe out of all the present crisis people will start to re-evaluate what is important and what is not. But whatever the funding model it will need to be for nationwide (or whole island) HEMS because that is the need. We may be a small country with a very high density of roads but they are not all contusive to rapid transport of patients. Try moving someone from Crookhaven to Cork or from Clifden to Galway, you eat a lot of the golden hour.

As for funding the easiest is that it is a nationally funded service part of the National Ambulance Service, the Scottish model.
Or it could be a Statutory Corporation like Irish Lights with a fee on say Health Insurance to cover the cost.
Or it could be a Charity, but it would need several large sponsors either private or corporate. Why several? Because you do not want to lose the service if one pulls out. Hence also the need to have it nationwide.

London HEMS had an Income of £11million and an Expenditure of £7.9 Million in the year 2018/19. That was for 2 Helicopters and 5 Rapid Response Vehicles plus all this staff to run the service.
Learn about our fleet of vehicles – MD902 Explorer helicopters and rapid response Skoda Octavias that ensures 24/7 cover. Saving Lives in London.

About our pilots, fire crew and charity staff - every member of our team provides critical support to keep our life-saving service running.

The also need to raise an extra £16 Million over 5 years for two new helicopters.

We rely on public donations and fundraising. We work closely with the NHS and receive some funding from our NHS partners, but we are not an NHS organisation. The majority of our service’s running costs are funded by supporters of London's Air Ambulance Charity.

London's Air Ambulance receives funding from commercial activity (lottery, sponsorship & shop), Corporate and individual donations, cash and gifts in kind.

Sponsors do it to advertise to their customers so it is more likely that a service would have Aldi, Dunnes, Pennys or Supermacs on the side of the helicopter.

Daily Express also had their logo on the Helicopter in the early years.

The latest Orginisation to have their logo on it, although not as prominent as the previous ones, is the Freemasons.
