    To the best of my knowledge ICAA is self funding (ie no HSE funding), would it therefore say no HSE staff? Not sure

    It is based on the Community Rapid Response model (so afaik they volunteer in their spare time)

    Maybe the consultants is to do with the national consultant shortage?

    My understanding of ICAA funding also.

    Which begs the question....while volunteerism is a great asset it doesn't always guarantee continuous availability of staff.....which is an absolute necessity to give the service any chance of public or professional credability.
    The people of England have been led in Mesopotamia into a trap from which it will be hard to escape with dignity and honour. They have been tricked into it by a steady withholding of information. The Baghdad communiqués are belated, insincere, incomplete.....It is a disgrace to our imperial record, and may soon be too inflamed for any ordinary cure.We are to-day not far from a disaster.

    I understand it is to be based out of an airstrip in Rathcoole, near Kanturk in North Cork. They couldn't secure a permanent spot in either Cork or Kerry airport.

    Geographically a better location than either airports but without an instrument approach it will be more weather limited requiring Visual Flight Rules for operations.

    Long history of helicopter operations from that site.

    I know someone who will be very interested in that...
    'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
    'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
    Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
    He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

    NIAA have a second stand-by aircraft based at Enniskillen Airport (I'm guessing they rotate airframes between the operational one and the stand-by one).

    I wondered at the time why they didn't just bring that one on-line...turns out the service only has two full-time pilots...and the Chief Pilot is ex-Irish Air Corps.

    We have to base the F35 somewhere now that the secret base in abbeyshrule has been exposed.

    A great service which will be very useful in the region, however while the medical personnel aboard will be suitably skilled, they won't be at the level normally seen in this type of service elsewhere.
