  • Royal Irish Regiment Reservists train in Cyprus

The 2nd Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment is one of only two TA units that come under the umbrella of 16 Air Assault Brigade - the Army’s very high-readiness force.

They have been training in Cyprus ahead of a busy year of operations, conducting a live firing exercise that has part of a contingency training package looking beyond Operation Herrick to unforeseen conflicts in the future.

Whilst still supporting the main effort in Afghanistan, this year will also see the TA unit involved in Op Olympic later this year, as well as deploying to Africa for a third time to train the Ugandan Peoples Defence Force, who are helping to bring stability to Somalia.

a great role for these part-timers - next stop Wales, then London and onto Uganda.

      How are these Irish Reservists,

The tale is about a Unit in the British Army who have Some Irish members ,

For propaganda reasons -and to give credibility to their ideas the Provos also claimed they were Irish Soldiers,

These lads ( and good luck to them) are not Irish Reservisits they are Reservisits in a British Army unit- if it was 62Bn RDF

Then there would be truth to this mans title but as it it the title is a lie from a well known spoofer.

Was that Captain Doug Beattie MC - the first soldier to be interviewed?

RGJ - when you get out will you join the TA?

Any truth in the rumour that the Army are looking to recruit another 1600 TA soldiers in NI?

          Lucky gits.

I always seemed to go to bloody Thetford for summer camp (or once Scotland, where half the unit came down with hypothermia!)
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
          Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

Thanks Bravo- for clarity sake it should also be pointed out that the original title was "Irish Reservists"- I actually thought that there were a couple of dozen RDF ers in Aya Napa on the lash.

OP a bit of thinking when posting would save a lot of trouble in future.

One could just as well post links to Marine Corps Reservists training at the NTC; This is much better suited to ARSSE as a thread, isn't it ?
"Are they trying to shoot down the other drone? "

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"

They are Irish, (or at least I would guess a large proportion of them would qualify for Irish passports), they are military, and it has been posted in foreign forces. The forum is Irish Military Online (not Republic of Ireland Military Online). What's the problem?

Whether 100% of them is Irish from Meath or whether 6 of them have Irish grannies is not the point.

The point is they are not as the OP said "Irish reservists" the only Irish reservists are those who swoream oath to this Country.

exactly - they are from the island of Ireland and they are Reservists, and yes this is the Foreign Forces forum where this stuff belongs.

unless we censor this stuff aswell as any mention of giving advice to lads hoping to become soldiers in another army, when they can't join their own?

PS : Please refrain from the repetitive namecalling in-thread; take it to PM Also note that the site rules have changed slightly . this sort of close-to-the-bone recruiting for the BA gets under a lot of people's skin. If you do post that type of thing you must expect a certain response. 6000+ posts should have taught yoy that.

10,000 applications, I believe, were just received to join the PDF. Those who want to join next door will find no shortage of info by use of popular search engines.

Whether they are 'Irish' or not is surely a moot point...

It is an interesting video of reservist infantrymen on exercise conducting live fire drills.

Surely of interest to a lot of people on this board?

I agree Andit is an interesting film clip- however its wrong to label it Irish Reservists...

The Unit in question is not restricted to Irish lads in fact there are lads from England Scotland Wales and Fiji

Why not title it Fijian reservists etc

But all is this beside the point the threads title now accurately reflects the contents of the thread-

Comment on the title should now end and comment on the content should commence.

An excellent man, had the pleasure of working with him in Afghan. Not afraid to get amongst it :P

Saw some photos on a mates facebook from over there, looked like a good ex. I would have preferred if they had come to Kenya with us seeing as we might be working with each other again on Herrick 18.
