Infantry Corps - An Lámh Comhrac
"Let us be clear about three facts:First of all.All battles and all wars are won in the end by the Infantryman.Secondly the Infantryman bears the brunt of the fighting, his casualties are heavier and he suffers greater extremes of fatigue and discomfort than the other arms.Thirdly, the art of the Infantryman is less stereotyped and harder to acquire than that of any other arm".

Multiband AFAIK.The way we seem to be going.

Data is the word for CIS Corps at the moment, i doubt you will see HF in the field due to the complexity in using the Harris along side the added risks of RF burns; You will probably see more 119E's in the field as there seems to be more and more HF going into jeeps.
There is added complexity's in the field in troubleshooting it, if its Zero'd youll need a toughbook to reprogram it; Youd have to teach people about LQA and Sidebands, different rules for day and night... The 119 hasn't outlived its service life yet and from an infantry perspective as it is relatively easy to troubleshoot or reprogram. Besides, you will have a pain in your back side having to put a ground spike down everytime you want to talk. Infantry is still Voice, it would be a waste to see the Harris only for this role.
In recent months we have focused more on Data Comms (detachments) we are doing less and less voice.

For ages iv heard guys on this forum , mainly PDF, stating that PLCE is the job for us RDF guys. Now i have a chest rig and assault vest (Both which ar super handy for my appointment) but iv noticed in Combat & Survival Magazine that the BA are still using PLCE for ops and trainin, hell even the elite pathfinders are still using it like... For the grunt on the ground its the only way, i wonder did the DFI jump the gun by issuing it to all, infantry would prob be better off with plce and the decent bergan than the new system? Im open to correction?
Apod your thoughts? and yes im a gear queer sayin the issue stuff is best! :-)
i think we should of kept our cefo and use it when needed
keep the new gear for when its suited
Already being done by certain Infantry elements.i doubt you will see HF in the field due to the complexity in using the Harris along side the added risks of RF burns.
SINCGARS is on the way out.Trust me.You will probably see more 119E's in the field as there seems to be more and more HF going into jeeps.![]()

It's all horses for courses.PLCE CEFO is best for dismounted patrolling/PIA/SIA (usual RDF tactics)as the weight is spread between your shoulders and hips.Only snag is you can't use a proper Bergen hip belt, designed to spread the load between shoulders and hips with it.
For mounted Ops such as APC's or softskin or Air assault Battlevests are better as you can't sit back properly in the seats with rear pouches on PLCE.This is a safety issue as if you are not properly seated and strapped in and the vehicle hits an IED or rolls or in a helis case does a hard landing then you risk spinal injury amongst other things.
The PDF went to BV's because our roles at home and overseas involve alot of mounted work these days. Our BV's are designed to work with a load distributing Bergen also. Those Bergens were brought in mainly as an anti claim device when the DF height requirement was lowered.
Having said that they are WAAAAY better then PLCE.
So.We would need to issue everyone two sets of webbing???

Harris is shite for voice.
Handy for everything else but in terms of voice, I'm not mad on it.

Agreed. Not the messiah product that its made out to be, but way better than the PLCE yoke which is a claim magnet. As stated I would hope that the RDF (the more serious parts) will be able to get their paws on them due to retirements and the issue of the female pack as from what I've seen there are some fantastic individuals in the organisation who are very keen to be able to support the PDF.
Would love to meet the guy who would spend this kind of money to buy this.

First post lads (go easy on the FNG) Was in town the other day and saw a bunch of PDF lads doing a cash escort. Saw one of the lads was wearing a chest rig and I thought "fair enough, most lads don't wear the rig now since the BV is pretty much issue. But when I walked past the guy I saw it wasn't the normal chest rig it was a super gucci modular one, especially the strap at the back, it had a thing of webbing on it that clipped onto the cross back straps. But the thing looked like genuine DPM not Protacs camo. Have any of you seen or heard about something like this, is it something thats on trial or whats the story?
Sincgars extended to 2019, additional capabilitys being rolled out with existing sets.

Body armour review board sitting.
Looking at all aspects of the current GSBA and future DF requirements.
Interim report due next Feb.Final report due next Sept. Procurement board to sit after that on foot of findings.
End user and logisticians survey's both on IKON main page with a link to the Boards own page.Lots of good stuff there. The board president is ex wing so he really knows his stuff.
If you have access to a PC or and IKON terminal take the time and complete the survey and have your say.Be able to back up your opinions though as if you answer NO to some of the questions they look for examples WHY.
