  • Transport to Haulbowline

I understand that there are two main routes:
    * Train to Cobh and ferry across.
    * Bus route 223 via Ringaskiddy.

Are the ferries strictly for island users (yes, I'm being euphemistic)?

Are the buses strictly for island users once they cross the bridge?

The Bus doesn't always go across the bridge.(I've not seen it do so) It turns at the lay by on the other side I believe except for early morning, four o clock and midnight. If your visit is pre-arranged, you can use the boat. If it isn't pre-arranged, the boat policeman won't let you on.
If you are deciding to take a tour, on spec, don't waste your time, there is nothing to see at the island end of the bridge, and even less on the road. The naval base proper is a good half click from the barrier at the bridge. If you are not expected you will not get beyond the barrier at the bridge. You'll see more from Cobh with a pair of Binos...
Google maps photo was taken in 2006. It's a lot less interesting now.
PM me if you want specifics.

Nothing so exotic as a visit to sunnier climes.

I'm fixing this: http://www.journeyplanner.transportforireland.ie/ - do the 222 and 223 stop in Douglas, it isn't on the timetables.

The bridge is missing, however, the bus routing can ignore this. The Haulbowline ferry is, for some reason, represented as a walking route from Cobh to Haulbowline. The Carrigaloe-Glenbrook ferry isn't programmed in.

A Cork(Kent) to Cobh station journey query results in trains - correct.

A Cork(Kent) to Cobh Town (not station) journey query is only returning taxis - wrong, one should be able to do train and walk. Click image for larger version

One of the wonky returns is Cork to Rushbrooke via Ringaskiddy, where almost every possible routing of the various route 223 sub-routes has been included in one image.Click image for larger version

In contrast, on route 222, it gets Cork-Fort Camden pretty much right, although the timetable sometimes mean you nee to use two buses. Click image for larger version

Your fixing it? are you working on that map or something? any chance you can fit in some up to date satellite imagery too nice for aerial images!

"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

There isn't any. We've been shooting down satellites here since 2005..

I don't think so, certainly the icon it uses is a pedestrain. Regardless, Joe Blogg can't use it for Ringaskiddy-Cobh, so it shouldn't show up.

The Launch is for foot passengers only.
The bus will go across the bridge.
And as with any military installation, you won't be allowed in if you haven't organised something.
There are tours done and there is a museum but you need to organise it

Transfer to the sat map on the ais site (MT) and a nice sat image of NBAD comes up with shots of a P20,P40,P50 and the P31,welcome change from the usual angles and the P50 with P31 alongside allowa direct comparisons.

It was taken in 2005/2006, judging by the remaining structure at Irish Steel, and the absence of a pistol range.
