No surprise really, pretty poor attempt at a hatchet job by C4, Goss backed the wrong horse here.

Not the first Time John went at loggerheads with Michael O'Leary, was another court case a few yeras ago.

John is ex Aer Corps and had jumped ship back in 88. nice guy ,I remember him from his time on Hs 748s and ATR 42s with Ryanair..when it was indeed RYAN..air.

He's due to retire in October so it was probably the opertunity O'Leary was looking for without having to hold a going away party!

I don't know, it sounds to me like Ryanair are trying the whole Fox News, let's bend reality approach to being called out for their bad practices.

I don't know whether the case around the issue is bad practise or unsafe.Legally they must have enough fuel for their diversionary alternative, they have not been found to be in breach of that legislation so the 'bad practises' are merely conjecture.

I would suggest that it was poor judgement on John Goss' behalf to go public on the issue prior to retirement.

While Ryanair have a deplorable HR record some of the pilots and ground staff have been with them since day one, you don't give 25 years working with someone that are painted to be demons.

I do remember people being paid per sector and some other God awful things, but it was accepted that they were entry level and good for hour building, career was not a by word with Ryanair.

Their safety record is proven, bums on seats and planes in the air, thats all that matters to O'Leary...attempt to undermine that and you are gone, especially if you yourself have signed a letter saying you have no problems in relation to safety issues three weeks earlier.

Wonder would O'Leary like a crack at running the HSE?

No matter who you work for, be it Ryanair or the cleaner at your local chipper, if you go public with work practices you will face disciplinary procedures of some sort.

Doubt if there was much of a golden handshake coming his way anyway but I'd be surprised if he hadn't wargamed the fairly predictable response from the airline and the legal implications for himself. He may know a lot more and is just keeping his powder dry for the moment.

I find the timing of his going public very strange also

Unless he had the inside track. Useless to speculate of course but I get the impression that he might have been for the chop before his retirement.

What's bad about it? It sounds like Ryanair promotes efficient use of fuel. Remember if aircraft land with too much fuel, they have to dump it. Hardly cost effective.

The IAA who are a government body backed MOLs stance, saying in not so many words that there is no safety problems.

The financial regulator who are a govt body backed the banks saying there was no problems- how did that work out for us?

The central bank a Govt body said no problemo with the banks- how did that work out for us?

Nearly every Govt body said there is no problems with banks/ Insurance/ letting Gardai run wild/ imprisioning "fallen women" / Catholic priests brothers abusing and raping kids / Issuing Lariam to one and all / not issuing hearing protection/ simply taking all the pension money from old folks living in nursing homes ... The list could go on and on.

Now really tel me why I should listen to the IAA and let my family fly ?? just to save 20 or 30 quid.

IAA would be subject to rules from the European Aviation Safety Agency, so they aren't on a solo run like some of those state bodies you point out.

In the IT industry we obsess about a 99.9% uptime (as in our services are available 99.9% of the time 24/7/365) I read somewhere that if we applied that rule to aviation we'd have a plane crash in europe once every 3 months.

Ryanair, or any other airline, will look to cut corners in all areas but safety will never be one of them, its like taking a wheel off your car to save on tyre wear.

All Govt agencies are subject to Euro rules of some kind or another Al.

You cannot compare a computer crashing which results in no porn for an hour or two to an aircraft crashing. It's not a like scenario.

I am sure MOL is a nice guy, I am sure RA is a good airline, it's just I wouldn't fly on them simply to save a couple of quid, I don't like their service, but I am sure there are loads who like them and who think they are safe.

After the C4 programme, Why didnt RA commission an independent survey (anon) of all it's crew in regards to safety ?
