            2 nice new pics appearing on the ships wiki page. (New in that they were not seen before, but taken in November).

              Is it just me or does that guy in the second picture make the ship look huge.

                Sprouted another pair of HF antennas & looks like the OTO has been moving around.

                Can't be more than a week or two till it ventures out...

                  What are the sleeping quarters and dining halls like?

                  Is this the 61 st ship and if not - then why P61?
                  Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                  Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                  The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                  The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                  The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                  Are full of passionate intensity.

                      Good question, grasshopper..

                      Sleeping quarters are excellent. Mostly 2 to a cabin. In reality, when you are sleeping, your cabin buddy is on duty, so lots of peace and quiet . There are 3 "dining halls" or messes and wardrooms as the Navy call them. the one used by Junior rates (equal to corporal and private ranks) is the sams size and gets served from the same kitchen(Galley) as the senior rates mess. Half of the mess acts as a dining area, while the other half has the comfy seats so a crewman can relax and watch TV. The Officers wardroom is only slightly more luxurious, with tea/coffee coming in cups and saucers, and out of a teapot or coffee pot. The couches are also more comfy than what is found in the other messes, mainly because while it is the same size as the senior and junior rates mess, there are less people using it. It doubles as a conference room.

                      When commissioned L.E. Samuel Beckett will not be the 61st ship in service. She will be (by my calculations) only the 18th. She will however be the first of class of the 6th type of patrol vessel in use.

                      Yes, someone forgot how to count during the 70s, but when you went overnight from a situation where you had no ship at all, to having 4, you can see that numbers were not a priority. Believe it or not, our numbering system is quite logical, compared to other Navies.

                              Can't make out the waist guns.Are they fitted yet?
                              "Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

                                Not yet. You can possibly make out the platform for one alongside the funnel. They will be fitted on it's arrival in Cork. They may be the ones removed from Emer on her decommissioning. The rest will be pintle mounted, to the railings.
