    Fitness Test

    Hello all,

Sorry if this has been done before but I had a look military.ie and on here using the search function and couldn't find what I'm looking for.

Does anyone have the grades for the fitness testing and the age brackets?

I know there's prob a table showing the info I'm looking for somewhere but I can't find it.

It looks good, I know the last part is changed, can't remember them though, I'll ask my Lt during the week...

Is it a Grade 4 or Grade 5 the pass point for the RDF this year?

No, depends on the course - Grade 3 for most courses but not all. Joining Instructions will say.

No. Most courses specify "have passed ITs Parts 1,2, and 3" - a pass normally means Grade 4, Grade 5 for RDF for 2014 only
As Dev says, if other fitness standards apply, this will be stated
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"

Practically all courses have a fitness requirement, unless otherwise stated that is Grade 4.

For some courses, eg RDF YOs Cse, it in Grade 3 but they are the exception rather than the rule.

Grade 5 for RDF for 2013 is for KPIs only, not courses.

"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

just wondering - and maybe i am taking this up wrongly, but why different fitness grades for different courses and in particular - why different fitness grades for Reservists?

unless attempting specialist selection surely all courses and all individuals should have the same minimum requirement - PDF and RDF?

Up to now RGJ the reserve didn't have to complete ANY annual fitness test.Except those who wished to go on career courses.Nor was there ANY fitness screening on entering the organisation. This led to lets say, some more "expansive" people joining the organisation. The age profile also in the RDF at the higher levels is much older than the PDF.Thus there is not at present, save for some dedicated individuals,a fitness culture in the RDF.
    That is being addressed.
This years recruits, when it gets the green light will have passed a fitness screening to get in.
Also last year their was a voluntary fitness screening during FTT and this year those wishing to stay in the organisation must pass the fitness test albeit at a grade lower than the minimum for the PDF.
That is only a one years grace period however. From next year RDF personnel will have to pass the exact same tests annually as their PDF counterparts and to the same grades.

Wrong. The Grade for the course is the grade for the course as published in the joining instructions and syllabus , except 4 Admin courses currently scheduled, which is currently the subject of a circular.

RDF KPIs for 2014 only are Grade 5 min.

If you have official notification of different, and by that I mean a J7 or DCOS document stating different, by all means i'll mention i'm wrong here.

For next year and following it is a common standard, as RGJ ( and I crossed in the post with Apod ) alludes.

I would like to think that most people will aim higher than a grade 5. Unfortunately most won't.

Let's put that Grade 5 into perspective. For me : Bloke , Age 45.

    To pass :

    6 pressups in a minute.
    7 situps in a minute
2 mile run in < 20.00 mins or do the 3 mile walk in < 41 mins
    10k in < 2 hours 7 min.

    Hmmmm

Basically, the fitness test system is graded 1(highest) to 6 (lowest). A pass is a grade 4 (for the RDF in 2015 only it is grade 5).

As Apod has said it is the first year there has been compulsory tests for the RDF so it gives all reservists a fair chance to prepare.

As trellheim says unless JIs and/or syllabai (and directive issued by Director DF Trg) say otherwise, all courses (PDF/RDF/combined) require a grade 4.

Some courses of a more physical nature (eg Inf YOs Cse) require a grade 3.

good news, and thanks for explaining.

it will take a while to implement and you may find many of those who whinge about not being a 'Single Force' may be those who find it the most difficult to get used to when it puts a rocket up their arse to get military fit.

anyhow - it's good that it is being sorted and addressed - for the benefit of ONH, the RDF, the Unit, and the Individual.
